Jordan Seguin (Piper)
Jordan Seguin started his piping at age 12, as a member of the Royal Canadian Army Cadets – 12th Service Battalion Corp. by attending the Vernon Army Cadet Camp in the summer of 1999, at which time he learned pipe band side drumming. The following two summers thereafter Jordan again attended summer camp and took the Piping and advanced cadet piping programs, because to quote Jordan, “He wanted to learn to play one of the hardest musical instruments on the planet”.
Upon leaving Army Cadets in 2001, with the rank of Warrant Officer, Jordan’s Grandmother noticed an advertisement in the Georgia Straight for Pipers with a local Irish Pipe Band. After contacts were made, Jordan joined the Irish Pipes and Drums of the B.C. Regiment on November 11th, 2001, thus becoming the youngest member to join the fledgling band and the youngest known piper to have joined either the Irish Fusiliers of Canada (the forerunners of the current Irish Pipes and Drums) or the current Irish Pipe Band.
Jordan rapidly become the bands prominent and only solo piper at many of the bands functions rising to the rank of Pipe Corporal in 2003, and Pipe Sgt. in 2005. Jordan has played at numerous private, military and civic events throughout the Vancouver area including functions for then (now Senator) Mayor Larry Campbell, Glennfiddich Whisky and also performing solo pieces in front of full houses at the Commodore Ballroom, Richards on Richards and many other high profile locations throughout the city.
In May of 2005 Jordan graduated from the acting for film and television program at the Vancouver Film School and is currently working on independent and student film projects, written and directed by himself and a longtime friend.
Approached in the summer of 2007, to become only the second Pipe Major in the history of the Irish Pipes and Drums, Jordan accepted and was promoted to Warrant Officer and Pipe Major on November 11th, 2007, just six years after joining the band at 15, making him the youngest serving pipe major in a military band in the British Commonwealth.
He has attended advanced Piping training provided by the World Champion SFU Pipe Band including courses in Pipe Band operations and being a Pipe Major over the past several years. Jordan also has a musical background and is an accomplished guitarist.
Look for Jordan this year as the Musical Host and Master of Ceremonies at many of the 60 events coming up at CelticFest Vancouver.
