CelticFilm

CelticFest presents exceptional documentaries about the lives and music of two extraordinary Celtic music-makers. Sit back, enjoy a beverage, and see these films in the comfort of Vancouver’s only theatre with two bars - at an extremely affordable price!

Sunshine Superman – The Journey of  Donovan
The ultimate life story of 60’s folk-pop phenomenon Donovan Leitch. This Scottish-born singer-songwriter was an innovative genius far ahead of his time, arguably one of popular music’s most influential yet under-recognized and misunderstood figures. Songs like Mellow Yellow and Jennifer Juniper are just a couple of his long string of hits over a four-decade career. The film features classic 60’s TV and film appearances, rare archive footage, never-before-seen material and appearances by many of his illustrious musical peers.

The Yellow Bittern – The Life and Times of Liam Clancy
Intimate, confessional and highly cinematic, this documentary is a revealing and surprising portrait of the man Bob Dylan called “the best ballad singer I’ve ever heard in my life”. It charts the remarkable rise to fame of The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, from County Tipperary in Ireland to international and iconic fame. Drawing on previously unseen and behind-the-scenes footage as well as Clancy’s personal archive, the film is a compelling look at a legendary life well-lived, warts and all.

Black Sheep Morris Dancers

The Bowen Black Sheep Morris Dancers’ performances consist of: anywhere from two to four musicians and four to twelve dancers, depending on turn-out. Sheep do often wander….

The Dancers were founded in 1998 by organizer, lead musician and teacher of the dances, Bob Doucet - who holds the title Squire: leader of the Black Sheep.

Why Morris dance? There is satisfaction in upholding old traditions with a motley crew - just because it’s what they do. The crowds, the fame, the black makeup running into your eyes…those are just the perks!
